About Project

Time Sensitive Communication in Campusnetworks for Teleoperated Control (TICCTEC) is a satelite project in the german CampusOS call focusing on Open RAN utilisation in 5G-Campusnetworks. TICCTEC will investigate the conjoint use of Time Sensitive Network protocols and 5G mobile communication networks via TSN-Translators. The aim is the realise deterministic communication from the edge cloud to the device for teleoperated robot and vehicle control. Also the integration of D2D communication in such an architecture shall be investigated to increase reliability and decrease latency in difficult wireless links.

Consortium

The project is funded by:

the German Federal Ministary for Economic Affaris and Climate Action
DLR Projektträger

TICCTEC project is a collaboration between the following partners:

Deutsche Telekom Chair for Communication Networks at TU Dresden
Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology
Qualcomm CDMA Technologies GmbH
Industrie-Partner GmbH Coswig

More on the project

Research Interest

The project aims to integrate 5G campus network with TSN. The goal is to develop a communication system that is tailored to specific applications. The project also includes the development of remote control for RoboOperator using TSN and D2D functionalities, which is crucial for the effective operation of AGVs or vehicles in a campus network.

Project Usecases

The project uses open standards and open source implementations, making it easier for application developers to integrate new use cases into the campus infrastructure. One use case is the remote control of a robot cell, allowing for autonomous operation from a distance. The second use case involves remote control of an AGV as a proof of concept for vehicle remote control. The third use case is the ad-hoc transmission of data between devices.
